“I want my work to be irresistible to look at; to draw viewers to come in close and compel them to run their fingers over the colors and textures.”

“Mississippi Delta, the Promised Land” is a series I created a few years ago. I continue to gain inspiration from the Delta. However, since that time, my interpretations of these inspirations have changed in small but significant ways and shape the pieces I create today.”

“If the landscape is a metaphor for our selves and our lives, then the roads, ditches, creeks and rivers which score and divide it can be seen as the interactions in our lives -- the indelible marks left by the relationships we create – and the scars on our very souls.”

“The Delta is an enigma – steeped in history and mystery, rich in cultures, ever-fertile and productive -- a mother to all of us who depend on the continuity of the seasons that set productivity into motion again and again.” - Jamie Tate
